FAQs

Where will the farm be located?

How big are the turbines?

The machines under consideration are commerical scale, in the range of 1.5 to 3.0 megawatt (MW) turbines.    The largest of these stands about 260′ at the hub of the rotor, and 400′ at the tip of the blade at its apex.  For reference, these are the smallest (in terms of tower height) size that commercial scale turbines are available.  Our choice of turbine depends on many factors, from efficiency of the farm to visual impact on the local landscape.

How much noise do they make?

Modern wind turbines are surprisingly quiet. The past 20 years has seen major gains in technology, and currently the primary sound is the 'swoosh' of the blade as it passes the tower. There is a quiet hum of the gearbox, which you have to listen for over the sound of the wind itself, which roars through vegetation all around the site.

How many turbines will there be at the Black Oak site?

There will be approximately 7 turbines. Siting and exact number is being determined currently.  We are working with local landowners, town regulations, geotechnical engineers, and construction experts to get the finaly layout set.

How long will they be operating for?

Wind turbines last for 20 to 30 years of nearly continuous operation. They are serviced on a regular basis to maintain their safety and operation.  Trust us, we plan to have them operating efficiently and quietly for their lifespan - then we can bring more renewable energy to you!
